Sam Houston Corvette Club Charities
The Sam Houston Corvette Club raises funds throughout the year for our charity work. Our funds are used to purchase, pack, and ship "Care Packages" to our military men and women. We purchase goods and add donated items, which are then sorted and packaged in individual boxes. These "Care Packages" typically contain items such as: personal hygiene products (men’s and women’s), shampoo, nail clippers and files, Q-tips, foot powder, heat packs, hand warmers, tissues, deodorant (roll on), baby wipes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, disposable razors, condiments, artificial sweeteners, life savers, mints, crackers, hot chocolate, powdered cool aid, powdered Gatorade, crystal lite, candy, nuts, cookies, breakfast bars, playing cards, recent magazines, and so much more. The Sam Houston Corvette Club then packs these items and ships them out to soldiers. We maintain a list of deployed soldiers to be sure the packages reach a soldier in the field.
While our charity work may be slightly different than giving funds to a pre-established charity; we find that our work has great rewards. We receive many letters thanking us for thinking about or remembering our soldiers. We are able to use 100 % of our charity dollars for these “Care Packages” as there are no paid employees or organizational expenses. We send out our packages four times per year so that many of our military men and women get a reminder of home.
The Sam Houston Corvette Club also helps the Wreaths Across America program raise money and donations. We participate in the annual procession to deliver and place the Live Wreaths in December of each year. Wreaths Across America honors our fallen military men and women from all generations by placing Live Wreaths at their gravesites. Each year the awareness of Wreaths Across America grows and reaches more families. It is a great honor to be a part of this annual celebration and help to place these Wreaths.
Finally, the Sam Houston Corvette Club helps other clubs and local groups by participating in car shows and other local events. We are proud to be a part of our community and knowing that we are a positive community service organization.
Lastly, if you or someone you know has access to items such as those in our “Care Packages” we would invite you to donate. Many medical offices have skin care samples and dentist offices have oral hygiene samples. Some retailers have dated goods etc. We are always interested in ways to add more items to these packages. If you have a family member or friend that is deployed, please send us their military address and how long they will be stationed for us to include them as a package recipient. It is a great feeling to say “Thanks” to our military.
